K. Connecting to mio TV

Some of my friends are using the Cordless Home Connect. Why are you recommending a wired connection instead?

TV is best delivered through a wired connection. A wireless / wirefree option while convenient, is not ideal for any TV service. Wiring remains the best solution and we are pleased to offer free inhouse wiring to your mio TV set top box.

Back to Top of FAQs

How is the wiring done?

The wire will be held to the wall with wall nails and covered with PVC casing. Wiring is provided at no extra costs.

Back to Top of FAQs

What is the necessary set up for mio TV?

For mio TV, you need a SingNet-approved modem. Hence for customers with non-SingNet DSL BroadBand such as Pacific Internet or M1 with a different modem, a separate dedicated SingTel Telephone Line at 50% & SingNet approved modem will be required.

Back to Top of FAQs

I'm interested to sign up mio TV, can you advise what types of equipment are required to install? Will there be any wiring?

For mio TV, you will need a SingNet-approved modem; mio TV set top box as well as microfilters on every active telephone point. The standard installation involves in-house wiring and this is currently provided free. A second dedicated SingTel Telephone Line can be provided with a 50% discount.

Back to Top of FAQs

Why do I need to use a microfilter?

Microfilters eliminate signal interference on the same wire. A microfilter filters out low frequency noise introduced by the ADSL data delivery to the phone, and high frequency noise introduced from the phone to the ADSL . You need to ensure there is a microfilter connected at all the wall phone socket points that are connected to a device e.g. telephones, fax machines.

Back to Top of FAQs

How do I get a microfilter?

Your SingNet-approved modem includes 4 microfilters.
You can also purchase these at your local electronics store.

Back to Top of FAQs

Why is there an increase in the price for Cordless Home Connect?

As with all promotions, offers will change over time. The promotional rate for the Cordless Home Connect has now been ceased and henceforth the Cordless Home Connect will be charged at $12.84 per month X 12 months or $154.08. If you would like a cost-free solution, we strongly recommend in-house wiring solution which is ideal for mio TV.

Back to Top of FAQs

Why wired solution?

A wired solution is optimal for mio TV. Depending on your preference, we can provide wiring from the current modem position or we can provide the mio TV service on a separate dedicated SingTel Telephone Line, to a telephone point that is closer to your TV. Quarterly SingTel Telephone Line charges of $29.54 will be subsided by 50%. Alternatively, you can opt to relocate your modem close to your Set-Top Box. This may impact your existing SingNet BroadBand wifi (if any).

Back to Top of FAQs

Will my viewing experience be better if my modem is placed nearer to my Set-Top Box (STB)?

For wired connection, there will be no difference if your modem is near or far from your Set-Top Box. In-house Wiring will be minimized if modem is nearer to Set-Top Box.

Back to Top of FAQs

Will I get a refund if I change my Cordless Home Connect for a wired solution?

You will not receive a refund. However if you have outstanding installments on your existing Cordless Home Connect, we can cease these. No penalty for the termination of these payments shall apply. You can continue to keep the Cordless Home Connect.

Back to Top of FAQs

How should I reboot my Set-Top Box? If there is no response, should I keep pressing the power button?

Reboot the Set-Top Box by holding down the power button for 5 seconds till you see 3 grey dots on your screen, followed by a "gear" visual on screen. Alternatively, you can restart the box by turning the power off and back on again. The rebooting process takes 3 minutes – do not interrupt this process and do not press the power button repeatedly as it will result a master reboot of your Set-Top Box and it will take more than 30 minutes to restart. If problem persists, please contact our Cust Care hotline 1688.

The screen freeze can be caused by an array of issues; caused by the loss of video packets reaching the set-top box. This loss of video packets usually happens within the customer’s home due to one or more of the following causes:
- Degradation of copper line from the distribution point (DP) outside the house to the wall socket
- There is no Micro Filter used at the wall sockets used with active telephone and ADSL modem
- Intermittent packet loss from the ADSL modem to the mio TV set-top box due to power line or Wireless interferences
(when Cordless Home Connect (CHC) solution is used)
- Set-top box over-heating (when the air flow is blocked; due to stacking of other equipment on top)
- ADSL modem processor over loaded when user is performing Peer-to-Peer (P2P) downloading

Back to Top of FAQs

What are High Definition (HD) channels?

High Definition Television channels are an advancement in TV technology; broadcasting on digital video format, and capable of displaying 16:9 aspect ratio images with resolution that is far superior and sharper than the current Analogue Television or Standard Definition Television. HD programmes will also be broadcast with full 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround Sound where available.

Back to Top of FAQs

What are the key features of HD?

HD allows you to enjoy a widescreen movie experience on your TV. It does away with the traditional box format and allows a wide movie-screen experience as pictures are presented in 16:9 aspect ratio.

Most TV sets today are manufactured using the 4:3 aspect ratio - 4 units wide by 3 units high. HD on the other hand delivers images in 16:9 aspect ratio. So you enjoy panoramic widescreen viewing that most closely emulates the human field of vision. To be exact, you enjoy 33% more screen view than your standard TV.

The sharpness of your television image, or its screen resolution, is measured by the number of horizontal lines displayed on the TV screen. The more the lines and the higher resolution, the sharper the images are on your TV screen.

HD-ready TV sets offer at least twice the resolution and four times greater detail, sharpness and clarity than standard TVs.

You will have a totally different TV viewing experience, with theatre-quality pictures and cinematic sound effects in Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound (where available).

Properly decoded, each audio track can be isolated to individual speakers around your TV viewing area to recreate the multi-dimensional audio experience you get in the cinema, right in your living room.

mio TV brings the widest and largest line up of HD programming in Singapore.
